William Dazey

Senior Litigation Attorney

A small town motorcycle enthusiast, Bill Dazey has a well-known laid back style that his clients and colleagues love. However, Bill’s clients and colleagues also know him as a fierce courtroom litigator. Bill has practiced federal criminal defense since 1978 when he started a small Indianapolis law practice. Not long after starting his firm, Bill joined the ranks of Criminal Justice Act Panel attorneys, taking on federal criminal cases by appointment to help provide defense services for clients who could not afford private attorneys.

In 2001, Bill’s passion for the underdog culminated when he joined the Indiana Federal Community Defenders office.

Since that time, Bill continues the fight as one of our most experienced trial attorneys, earning him the title of Senior Litigation Attorney. During his tenure, Bill has handled some of the most complex cases to come through our office and his days are often marked by teaching and mentoring attorneys both inside and outside the IFCD office. Bill also serves as the warehouse of knowledge regarding complex issues around the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and often provides updates to local attorneys on Seventh Circuit and Supreme Court case developments.

Spare time will find Bill channeling “the Dude” at the bowling alley, flying about in his personal flying machine, or spending time with his wife and large family, including his beloved grandchildren.
