Charlotte Davis

Mitigation Specialist

In 2022, Charlotte joined the Indiana Federal Community Defender’s Office after working as a post-conviction mitigation specialist for clients on death row in Texas. While in Texas, she conducted comprehensive interviews in Spanish and English, chasing down evidence to support the creation of robust multi-generational family histories for her death-sentenced clients. Charlotte found her passion for working in the criminal justice system during her years at Harvard, where she studied racial violence in the United States through the disciplines of history and literature. In her undergraduate years, she spent her time working with unhoused and low-income communities in Cambridge, MA., as well as providing legal aid to those facing human rights abuses within Mexico’s prison system.

In her work for the Capital 2255 Unit at the Office of the Indiana Federal Community Defenders, Charlotte continues her work for death row clients. Working with the attorneys in the Unit, Charlotte and her team investigate the lives of the Unit’s clients with the goal of creating deep, multi-generational client histories that help the Courts to understand unique frailties of individual clients and how they shape the client’s involvement in the underlying case. Charlotte’s easy going personality and hard work ethic make her a natural fit for the high stress and demanding work of a capital mitigation specialist.

In her time away from the office, Charlotte finds joy in joining pick-up soccer matches at the local park, experimenting with her favorite pastry recipes, and reminiscing on her past life as a beekeeper.
