Anica Barnes

Chief Paralegal & Assistant to the Defender

A highly skilled paralegal and dedicated public servant,  Anica joined the Office of the Indiana Federal Community Defenders in 2020 following a long tenure with the Indiana Supreme Court. As Assistant to the Defender, Anica serves as a first point of contact for and helps to manage the busy schedule and needs of our Chief Federal Defender, Monica Foster. In her role as Chief Paralegal, Anica serves as the primary paralegal for our Criminal Justice Panel of attorneys. Anica helps send those cases that our office does not keep to one of our highly qualified panel attorneys, helps to schedule meetings and trainings, and assists with processing payments for the panel attorneys. Anica reached her supervisory role in the office by being the kind, even tempered person who always volunteers. In her supervisory role, Anica has the same approach, calm and kind, she helps the team look for ways to improve so that our clients receive the best care possible while they’re in our hands.

In her spare time, you’ll find Anica enjoying time with her fire fighter husband and her growing girls.
