Alex Woods

Mitigation Specialist

Alex joined the Office of the Indiana Federal Community Defenders as a college intern, fell in love with mitigation, and stayed. Now a trained and seasoned mitigation specialist, Alex is working on his master’s degree in social work.

At the IFCD, Alex and his team help identify early in the case those clients whose cases need extra investigation due to some extenuating factor, such as a history of trauma, poverty, educational hurdles, substance abuse, or other complicating factors. Alex works with the attorney and the team to investigate and bring those issues before the court in a way that helps the court see and understand the whole person before them and what vulnerabilities brought them to federal court.

Time away from the office will find Alex studying and spending time with his wife.
