Crack cases commuted by Obama

President Obama, in response to the unfairly long sentences given to crack cocaine offeners, commuted the sentences of 8 men who received sentences under the old drug sentencing scheme, which sentenced crack offenders to a sentence 100 times longer than the same charge for powder cocaine. These cases were ineligible for relief provided by Congress due to mandatory minimum sentencing and the sentences received were racially charged and fundamentally unfair.
